Listed Building & Heritage Roofing

Traditional roofs repaired with care across Suffolk and Norfolk

Looking After Historic Roofs

Suffolk and Norfolk are full of historic buildings, from the Georgian and Victorian streets of Southwold, Aldeburgh and Bungay to timber-framed cottages and farm buildings under clay pantiles. Their roofs are a large part of their character, and they need repairing in a way that keeps it.

D.A Dancer Roofing Specialists works on listed buildings and properties in conservation areas. We favour repair over replacement, match existing materials wherever we can, and use traditional techniques where the building calls for them.

Traditional Materials and Methods

Natural Slate

We repair and relay natural slate roofs, replacing broken or slipped slates with matching slate and reusing sound existing slates wherever possible.

Clay Tiles and Pantiles

Clay pantiles and plain tiles are characteristic of East Anglian roofs. We source matching or reclaimed tiles for repairs so new work blends with the old.

Traditional Lead Work

Valleys, flashings, gutters and bay roofs on older buildings are often lead. We repair and renew lead work using traditional methods suited to the building.

Chimneys

Historic chimney stacks need careful repointing and repair to stay sound and weathertight. We repair stacks, flaunching and flashings with materials suited to the original construction.
